Flywheel Video · Texas video production

Houston, TX
video production.

Explain the people, processes, and expertise behind your Houston organization. Flywheel Video develops interview-led films and operational stories with a practical filming plan and a clear editorial purpose, bringing the conversation and supporting activity together in the finished piece.

Local production planning

Registration and location permission are separate questions.

The Houston Film Commission’s public-property registration page explicitly distinguishes registration from permission to film on City, County, State, Federal, or private property. Give the Commission and property contact a precise address and activity description. Keep any public staging, road use, or separate location approvals in the plan instead of assuming registration reserves a site.

Access, sound,
and the filming day.

For an industrial or technical facility, ask the host about induction, escorts, protective equipment, restricted areas, and equipment brought on site. A demonstration can be visually strong while machinery makes dialogue impractical. Plan the interview in a quieter location and use the operation as supporting footage when appropriate. If exterior work is included, review heat, rain, and participant needs against the actual forecast.

Planning example · illustrative brief

A technical interview with process footage

An agency has a Houston subject explaining a complex operation and needs footage that makes the explanation understandable. The planning example separates a controlled interview from approved operational sequences. A facility representative identifies the steps that can be shown and the times those processes run. The producer uses that information to place cameras safely and reserve enough time for the required details, without promising that a working process can be repeated on demand.

From local capture
to final delivery.

Share the site contact, access requirements, process schedule, and recording specifications. If the footage joins a series from other facilities, identify the shots and terminology that need consistency. We can film the Houston story from your brief, then provide organized material for your editor or include post-production in the agreed scope.

Provisional planning guidance

Tie the allowance to the process window.

A technical explanation can require controlled dialogue, facility entry preparation and a separate operational sequence. Include inductions, escorts, protective equipment, restricted areas and the times a process actually runs. Add capture specifications and editing responsibilities so the provisional comparison distinguishes an agency crew assignment from a finished explanatory film.

Interview filming

$2,500–$4,500USD planning range

One filming day at one location, with two interviews. Your team supplies the creative direction and handles the edit.

One finished interview film

$5,250–$9,500USD planning range

Creative planning, one filming day, two interviews and one two-minute film. No additional format versions.

A connected film series

$11,750–$21,500USD planning range

Creative planning, two filming days, four interviews, three main films totaling five minutes, plus two straightforward format versions.

Illustrative scopes based on Flywheel’s current estimating guidance. These are provisional planning ranges, not fixed packages, a booking or a final quote. Actual locations, hours, crew, rights and delivery requirements need Flywheel confirmation.

Assumptions and costs to confirm

Planning assumptions

  • Starter USD planning allowances are working benchmarks, not a universal industry rate card or a final quote. Flywheel confirms the scope, crew, schedule and commercial terms.
  • Creative planning assumes discovery, a story outline, interview themes and basic production preparation.
  • Each production day assumes up to eight hours with a two-person interview or corporate production crew and a standard camera, basic lighting and sound package. Specialist equipment, extra crew and overtime need separate review.
  • Routine location coordination and ordinary interview preparation are included in the planning and filming allowances; those calculator rows add no separate charge. Location changes can still increase filming time.
  • Editing combines a base allowance for each distinct main film plus an allowance for the total finished minutes. The base alone is not the complete editing price.
  • An additional version means reframing or a straightforward shorter cut from the approved main film. New concepts, languages, major restructuring or extensive graphics need separate review.
  • Editing assumes two consolidated rounds of client feedback. Final review rounds, media handoff, source files, storage and licensing must be defined in the agreed scope.
  • All visitor quantities are working assumptions. Unknown scope, complex requirements or specialist review terms can prevent an automatic numerical estimate.

Exclusions unless agreed in scope

  • Travel and accommodation unless expressly included.
  • Location fees, permits, talent and usage rights unless expressly included.
  • Stock, music, third-party licenses and taxes unless expressly included.
  • Specialist equipment, additional languages, animation, visual effects, broadcast and unusual access requirements unless expressly included.
  • Additional filming, changed creative direction and new deliverables outside the confirmed scope.

Resolve the location, capture and delivery questions before the filming day.

Houston Film Commission — City filming registration guidance ↗

Does Houston filming registration reserve the property?

The Houston Film Commission distinguishes registration from permission on City, County, State, Federal or private property. Give the relevant contacts an exact address and activity description. Confirm property access, public staging and any road use separately rather than treating registration as a location reservation.

How should we prepare a technical facility before crew arrival?

Ask the host about induction, escorts, protective equipment, permitted gear and restricted areas. Identify safe observation positions and process times with the responsible representative. Reserve a quieter interview room if machinery competes with dialogue, keeping explanations and active operational footage as separately planned tasks.

What happens if a process cannot be repeated for camera?

Tell the producer which steps run only during a fixed window and which details the editor must receive. Plan coverage from approved positions and record explanatory notes with the facility lead. Agree an alternative demonstration or detail sequence without representing it as an unobserved live operation.

What should an outside editor receive from the shoot?

Supply the recording specifications, required process shots and terminology before filming. Agree file organization, subject identification and notes explaining each operational sequence. State whether interview preparation and direction are included, and name any editing or finished versions that should be quoted alongside footage delivery.
