Flywheel Video · Montana video production

Missoula, MT
video production.

Tell a Missoula, Montana story through the people and places that give it meaning. Flywheel Video develops the interview, films purposeful supporting scenes and shapes the edit around your audience, whether the subject is an organization’s work or one person’s experience.

Local production planning

Let the setting support the story without driving the schedule.

The Montana Film Office offers statewide location and production assistance. For Missoula filming, identify the owner or manager of each office, campus space or outdoor area before planning access. A recognizable landscape may have a different contact from the interview room; describe the intended activity and equipment footprint when asking how the proposed locations should be reviewed.

and the filming day.

For a Missoula nonprofit or expert conversation, decide whether an outdoor setting adds essential information or simply visual context. A quiet interior may give the participant more control over the interview, with exterior material captured separately when conditions suit the story. Ask who can arrange any activity you want to show and whether the participant needs to be present for it. Include changing locations, equipment handling and room preparation in the schedule rather than extending the conversation window to cover the entire production.

Planning example · illustrative brief

Hypothetical brief: a mission explained through individual experience

An organization wants a Missoula film about why its work matters to people in the region. One possible brief records a staff conversation and a participant account where involvement has been arranged by the client. Approved workplace or outdoor activity adds context for the experiences they describe. The shot list identifies what each sequence should help a viewer understand. The client supplies factual background and review contacts, while the editorial scope defines whether the result is a single story, an interview collection or a set of shorter versions.

From local capture
to final delivery.

Include the Missoula locations, participant availability, activity contact and intended audience. Identify outdoor footage that is essential and an alternative setting if conditions change. We can film the conversation and supporting sequences, then edit a focused interview story, with the narrative structure, review responsibilities, captions and any shorter versions agreed in the production brief.

Provisional planning guidance

Scope the mission through meaningful, available scenes.

A nonprofit or expert profile can combine a quiet conversation with separate outdoor context or program activity. Missoula estimates should reflect who arranges those scenes and whether the participant is needed there. Account for equipment handling, location changes and editorial context before extending the speaker’s window to cover tasks that can be filmed independently.

Assumptions and costs to confirm

Planning assumptions

  • Starter USD planning allowances are working benchmarks, not a universal industry rate card or a final quote. Flywheel confirms the scope, crew, schedule and commercial terms.
  • Creative planning assumes discovery, a story outline, interview themes and basic production preparation.
  • Each production day assumes up to eight hours with a two-person interview or corporate production crew and a standard camera, basic lighting and sound package. Specialist equipment, extra crew and overtime need separate review.
  • Routine location coordination and ordinary interview preparation are included in the planning and filming allowances; those calculator rows add no separate charge. Location changes can still increase filming time.
  • Editing combines a base allowance for each distinct main film plus an allowance for the total finished minutes. The base alone is not the complete editing price.
  • An additional version means reframing or a straightforward shorter cut from the approved main film. New concepts, languages, major restructuring or extensive graphics need separate review.
  • Editing assumes two consolidated rounds of client feedback. Final review rounds, media handoff, source files, storage and licensing must be defined in the agreed scope.
  • All visitor quantities are working assumptions. Unknown scope, complex requirements or specialist review terms can prevent an automatic numerical estimate.

Exclusions unless agreed in scope

  • Travel and accommodation unless expressly included.
  • Location fees, permits, talent and usage rights unless expressly included.
  • Stock, music, third-party licenses and taxes unless expressly included.
  • Specialist equipment, additional languages, animation, visual effects, broadcast and unusual access requirements unless expressly included.
  • Additional filming, changed creative direction and new deliverables outside the confirmed scope.

Resolve the location, capture and delivery questions before the filming day.

Should we record the full interview outdoors?

Decide whether the setting provides essential information or mainly visual context. A quiet interior can offer a more controllable conversation, with outdoor material captured separately when conditions suit the story. Reserve the participant’s window for the explanation rather than making it depend on optional exterior coverage.

Who needs to attend supporting program scenes?

Ask the host which activity can be arranged and whether the interview participant is actually required for it. Name the person coordinating that location and its preparation. Filming some scenes separately can preserve a focused interview window while still giving the editor meaningful context for the mission.

How do we avoid making a nonprofit film feel abstract?

Build questions around a specific experience, decision or practical activity. Identify which speaker supplies wider context and which approved scenes make it tangible. Supply names, facts and relevant assets for review so the edit connects the mission to concrete information rather than relying only on statements of purpose.

Can a profile also provide short outreach clips?

Yes. Define the message each clip should carry and where it will appear before filming. Prepare enough context in the interview for those pieces to stand alone. List captions, graphics and review responsibilities so the proposal distinguishes shared source material from the additional editorial work of separate outputs.
