An anniversary campaign with people at its center

Flywheel Film created a campaign for NYC DYCD marking 60 years of the Summer Youth Employment Program. Accounts from former participants and supporters connected the anniversary to personal experience. Encouraging employers to participate in the program was part of the campaign’s purpose.

Creative development, interviews and a shared identity

Flywheel Film’s credited responsibilities include concept development, marketing strategy, storyboarding, directing, interviewing, cinematography, motion graphics and video production. The work combined film with branding and custom visuals for different platforms, giving the campaign several ways to communicate its message.

A campaign film and a documentary portrait

The project includes perspectives from DYCD Commissioner Keith Howard and former participant Ninfa Segarra. Alongside SYEP: 60 Years of Impact, the separate portrait Ninfa Segarra: My SYEP Story gives viewers another entry into the anniversary work. Both films are available on this page.

Planning a public-service or anniversary campaign

For a similar project, define the anniversary’s purpose before deciding what to film. An invitation to employers, an account of a program’s history and a participant portrait can serve different audiences. Decide which message leads the campaign and where each supporting story belongs.

Bring the people, existing brand materials and intended publication channels into the production brief. Identify the interviews, campaign graphics and film versions you want to discuss, then agree how the message should carry between them. Plan who will arrange participation, review factual statements and approve the visual treatment. These decisions help connect a central film with the wider communications around it.
